Hi all! I'm Pur. I'm bringing you Hopeless from Skulduggery Pleasant. He's an important character to a lot of major characters' backstories, but he died before canon begins, so I've had to fill in a lot of my own details.
First and foremost is that he's a mind-reader. In a nutshell, he's a radio switched permanently to 'receive' while everyone else is switched to 'broadcast'. Which means he's literally defined by the minds around him. He was raised as a monk in the 15th century and the monks thought he was a demon, so he grew up believing he was a demon. Or, if he was left alone on a ship with a villain for three weeks he would start turning evil ... for example. He depends on the anchors of minds around him to stay sane, but equally so those minds could turn him insane, so. Boy's got identity issues.
HOWEVER he blocks out most things and because of that whole demon thing he learned early on not to be a killjoy. He's got a strict moral code regarding talking about what he hears in other peoples' heads, and he knows people will react badly so he doesn't let on he can do it. Most characters won't have to worry about him blabbing their secrets everywhere. In regards to villains, he still won't blab secrets everywhere; he's a big believer in not misusing information. (He will probably try to figure out how to be a thorn in their sides, however.)
More conventional limitations: he can't read people over the journal network and he can't read people who don't have physical brains. More details in his permissions post over here! I admit I'd really like to play with his reading-but-keeping-mum thing, but if you'd rather he can't read your character at all, the permissions post is also the place to go to let me know.
His application is this way for those of you who don't mind major Book Eight spoilers.
Otherwise, Hopeless will be crewing with Skulduggery Pleasant and basically trying to figure out how to get back to his universe at a point in time which doesn't include him dying straight after getting there.
