Jon here, returning from hiatus.

I'll be getting back into the swing of things in the coming days and picking up all my tags/threads with Nami & Mona Lisa. Though if anyone I was tagging with wants to drop the thread and such, just lemme know and it'll be done.

Happy to be back!

Race Day, Q&A!

How is this going to work?
Each crew is paired with a rival, fighting for the island’s token. See this post for more detailed information. In order to determine who gets the token, crews will play the maze game here, screenshot the fastest time, and e-mail it to the mods. More details will be given out in the first maze announcement after the race starts, but please note that each crew may only send in one screenshot per token! Play amongst yourselves to find your best time and then e-mail us. The rival with the fastest time wins the token for that island.

There will be one maze a week and all results must be turned in by 11:59PM EST on that particular Saturday. Crews that do not turn anything in will forfeit the token. If both crews forfeit, the token will become free range, first claim, first served.

On the final days, we’ll have another competition between the six remaining crews to see who ultimately wins the race.

Can I steal another crew’s token?
You can certainly ask the other crew if you can, but whether or not you are able to steal the token is up to them.

Do we have to visit the islands in order? Can our crew go to a different island than the rival crew with a chance at the token?
You may, but the token games are going to be in order. In other words, even if you are at island B in the first week, the game will still be for the token located at island A.

What’s the deal with the NPC crews?
The NPC crews are to use as you like and do whatever you wish with. However, if you end up destroying the crew/killing the captain, please inform the mods just for information’s sake.

How can we travel across the world with these sailing times?
The Great Ghost Race is a chaotic time in terms of currents and winds as Davy Jones stirs underneath the waves. In ooc terms: the sailing times can be hand waved shorter or longer depending on preference/convenience.

Can I kick the Corpse King’s ass?
Because we have an uneven amount of crews participating, the Corpse King is a special character. While an NPC, he still needs to be around so a mod can use him to participate in the maze game. You are welcome to come try and thrash him and if you or your crew is interested in doing so, please send a private plurk to our event mod at [plurk.com profile] handsoplenty.

That is it insofar as information and rules. Should you have any questions, feel free to ask. Most importantly, remember, communication is key to a great game!

The island for the month is...

FIBERS OF GEORGIA

[Distance from Isla Empieza]: 3 days

[Direction from Isla Empieza]: West

[Terrain]: The island is essentially a rising spiral. It's a fairly massive island manufactured to look like a drill bit pointing towards the sky. It's rocky on the outside and there is only one port leading into it, but it's massive enough to be a major city. Vegetation is sparse on the outside rim of the island, but exceptionally lush and abundant as one gets closer to the inside of it. The wildlife and the flora are all jungle/tropical, so expect vines and tall trees all over the place.

[Weather]: Think rainforest. Houses have plenty of drains and basins for the abundant rains.

[Is the island inhabited?]: No.

[If so, what is the culture like here?]: The culture is split into castes, though not by birth or wealth. Citizens spend their days on the outside of the island until they're educated. The most skilled and intelligent a person is, the more likely they'll move closer to the inside of the island is. Essentially, the closer one's home and profession is to the center of the island, the higher on the ladder they are. The island's level of technology is fairly high as they're capable of utilizing telecommunications and high-grade factory-type machinery. Given that the island smells like a pristine jungle all the time, it's clear they've managed to do this without fossil fuels.

[Island peculiarities]: On top of its odd performance-based caste system, the island is also dominated by its taste in clothing, though outsiders likely would be unable to understand how this ranking works. It's borderline random, so most visitors don't read into it.

However, upon arrival, visitors will likely be a little flustered. Immediately, all clothing visitors are wearing when they arrive will vanish and be replaced with skintight outfits that cover the upper body and upper body up to the neck, elbows and knees. These outfits will have no discernible color and will seem as if they're cascading rainbows. There will be clothing present on the island itself, but visitors will find that wearing any particular set of clothing will influence their moods and personality. If it's an innocuous and neutral outfit, the colors will affect their moods. If the outfit has a theme to it, the one wearing it might find that it'll have a drastic shift on their personality. The island itself is heavily involved with fashion on a fairly creepy basis, so visitors might even recognize outfits they've seen or worn before. Also, don't be surprised if wearing random additional articles of clothes grant you super strength or speed or anything. (psst cosplay island)
