Drop
Hey guys,

This is Ax, and I'm sorry to say that I'm dropping Chandra Nalaar here. It's probably no shock, given how inactive I've been lately, but I thought I'd make it official. It also means that for the moment I'm dropping the game entirely.

I've loved her CR and everyone who's played with her has been fabulous, but she's just not meshing well with the setting right now and my motivation for her is kind of tanking.

I may be back to the game sometime in the future, because it's a wonderful concept and you guys are all great. But until then, best of luck and keep being great!

October 17th

The battle will take place over the course of four hours on Friday, October 17th. Everyone is welcome to participate. The frigate will be heavily armed with an additional small scout ship easily taken over. Hawtrey, the former Corpse King, will have an armada of three ships -- lightly armed though watch out for cannonballs that will release a poison gas if shattered against decks or cut.

Additionally anyone is welcome to fight whom they want, get rid of as much cannon fodder as they want, and loot -- the treasure won't be substantial but at least worth the effort.

However, there are four treasures/events that must be rolled for.

**The Prodigal Journal**
Rank: Easy (A win constitutes a guess within 30 numbers of the target in either direction)

Success: You acquire the journal, no more, no less. But you will find a private conversation written in an obscure language to none other than Scurvey Dog.
Failure: You don't acquire the journal and must fight your way to freedom.

**Jones' Right Eye**
Rank: Medium (A win constitutes a guess within 20 numbers of the target in either direction)

Success: You acquire Jones' Right Eye, which is a medium shard set in the center of a medallion, bearing a little resemblance to a cat-eye. This will be heavily guarded so prepare to fight.
Failure: You must fight your way back to the ship. Additionally, if your roll falls too far from the target, there may be death or capture on the line.

**Head of the Corpse King**
Rank: Hard (A win constitutes a guess within 5 numbers of the target in either direction)

Success: You have the Corpse King cornered. Killing him, catching him, or setting him free is up to you.
Failure: You have the Corpse King cornered, and then he has you dead or at least critically wounded, via poison of one sort of the other.

**The Golden Prize**
Rank: Extremely Hard (A win constitutes the exact number)

Success: You gain control of the frigate and can plunder it of all it's considerable treasure. If you have enough crew you can also steal the ship.
Failure: Your crew is killed and/or forced to flee as your ship is completely sunk.

Please sign up for the selections you're interested in with crew name and a number guess. (1-100). Deadline for signups is Wednesday the 15th, 11:59pm EST.

You may sign-up for all of them if you wish but (depending on demand) will only be able to win one.

Note the First: These sign-ups are only to see who will win the right to roll for success/failure. The success/failure rolls will be on the 16th.

Note the Second: You're more than welcome to back out at any time before you post to the actual log. However if whomever won the right to roll backs out, the prize will go un-won.

The island for the month is...

CANDY MOUNTAIN

[Distance from Isla Empieza]: Three weeks.

[Terrain]: One doesn't need to search hard for this island. Even when the island is out of sight, the sweet smell alone lures in travelrs from all over. Absolutely everything on the island is made of sweets of some sort! Even the dirt is not actually dirt, but made up of vast amounts of crushed brownies, chocolate cake, and cocoa powder. The grass if made of thin, green-colored licorice where lollipop flowers grow. Honey bees are actually honey! The trees are made of saltwater taffy and filled with caramel sap. The life forms are made up of various sweets. Birds adorned with feathers made of cotton candy, ants that are actually dark chocolate morsels, sour patch rhinos, gummy monkeys, butterflies that leave a trail of powdered sugar in in various colors. There is a lake made of chocolate milk, which comes from a tall waterfall (but, you know, no actual water), where marshmallow fish swim in happily.

The possibilities are truly endless!

There is no water on the island, so bring your own!

[Weather]: The weather is cool in order to keep everything from melting. It doesn't get higher than 50F/10C. The nights can be pretty cold. When it rains, it pours down chocolate and occasionally floods the land. The clouds are pink and fluffy on a sunny day, dark red when a storm comes through. When it snows in the winter, each snowflake is made from...SALT! It's the only season that is truly harsh on this island, because everything either melts, dries to nothingness, or makes everything taste awful! But the snowflakes are at least beautiful?

[Is the island inhabited?]: Yes, by candy animals and insects!

[If so, what is the culture like here?]: Pretty sweet! But seriously, it isn't any different from a regular jungle besides the weather and candy creatures.

[Island peculiarities]: The one thing anyone will notice first is the massive mountain made of bitter chocolate. There are pools of a green liquid all about the base, and only about the base. The scent is very similar to soda, and upon tasting it, one will discover that it is indeed that! However, one will instantly become addicted to the liquid and start seeing sounds, tasting colors, and be in a constant haze of euphoria. It's literally a liquid high! Yet once you try it, you'll never want to leave the island. Continuous consumption of the green liquid will result in a sugar induced coma, and eventually death.

But what a way to go!

Inside the mountain, upon inspection, will find beautiful jewels (made of candy, of course) adorned all over the walls, as well as massive, boulder-like golems standing at twenty feet tall guarding them. Legends call them Jawbreakers, and they do earn their name. No one knows how to defeat them, as their tough exterior makes it nearly impossible to penetrate. It's best to run and dodge, for they are not that bright.

There is one jewel, covered in every other jewel inside, that is the precious treasure of the Jawbreakers. It's said to worth more than any jewel in this world, and it's only the side of one's head. It's supposed to taste like no other treat in the universe, and can only be made once every ten thousand years. No one has ever been able to take it.

Finally, reaching this island is not so simple as just sailing there. Your crew must:

1. BELIEVE IN THE MAGIC OF FRIENDSHIP!!

2. Once the first condition is met, a rainbow wall will appear, but it won't let your ship in just yet. Trying to push forward will result in your ship being pushed back twice as much. You'll have to sing a song. It has to be a happy song, though! Nothing above a G rating! At least one person has to sing. The only hint given is the music wafting through the air.

With multiple trips, multiple songs need to be sung. The second visit will require two songs, the third three songs, and so forth.

3. Once condition #2 is met, the rainbow will pull you inside gently through the rainbow.

Happy fall, High Seas! Time for your monthly mod post!

Housekeeping items:

REMINDER: AC is due at the end of this month!! Please check that page for the rules and details. October 31st is the deadline!

♦ New characters! If you haven't already done so, please make sure to comment on both the Taken Characters and Player Contacts pages! Current players, please make sure you're keeping your info on the Player Contact page updated whenever you bring in a new character!

Intro Log for anyone who wishes to participate! Characters both new and old are welcome. Feel free to bump into other people here as your characters are trying to figure out what's going on!

♦ ALL CHARACTERS IN THE GAME SHOULD HAVE A TAG! Please use these anytime you create or comment on a post in [community profile] piratejournal and [community profile] high_seas! This will make it much easier for YOU if you ever want to go back and find a post your character tagged into! If you've commented on the Taken Page, then you should have or will soon be getting a tag. If we somehow missed you, let a mod know and we'll create one ASAP.

♦ As you form crews or join the ones that already exist, please be sure to let us know over on the Ship Registry / Crews page! Also, we suggest making plurk cliques with your crew members, or maybe even setting up a separate DW community for your crew. It makes it easy to keep in touch with everyone on board your ship and gives you a convenient place to plot, etc!

♦ We also have the Crew Locations post. Be sure to keep it updated!

Joining a crew is not optional. Whether you start your own, hop on someone else's ship, or even set sail by yourself, your character should eventually end up sailing the seas. Isla Empieza is not there for them to set up a permanent residence! Get yourself on a boat!

♦ You can use the Island Registry to determine where you would like to sail to and have ADVENTURES. Feel free to visit any of the islands already listed there, or create one of your own!

♦ We really suggest that you keep the Mod Plurk friended, as we use it to post all sorts of updates, reminders, and event notifications: [plurk.com profile] highseas
