regarding maps and islands
For our eager crews, the following information is a must-have!
So you're ready to set sail, eh? Don't forget to get yourself a map at Backwater Brig! If you do forget, however, never fear: on the first day of sailing, you and your crew will find a temporary companion on board: a seagull with a parchment scroll tied to its leg, as well as a note from Miss Margie:
"Sir or madam,
As a gift for your maiden voyage, Backwater Brig provides a map, free of charge. Please visit us on Isla Empieza for your supply needs, we have everything from this world to the next.
- Ms. Margaret
PS: The map isn't broken.
Unfurling the scroll*, you'll find: an old, but sturdy parchment map that's faded from the years, although the ink is readable. A compass rose sits on the left-hand upper corner.
For starting crews, maps will only show two islands: Isla Empieza and one starter island from the Island Registry. Everything else is hazy—foggy white ink moves on the parchment, behaving like clouds and constantly moving, and while other islands are noted, they also move around aimlessly, and do not stay stationary.
You may choose your own starter island, including islands that have been approved but haven't been updated onto the post yet! However, if you and your crew have no inclination to choose an island, fret not: we will provide a default starter island for your crew! It is not required to go with the default starter island—it's merely there to help those fraught with indecision!
Upon reaching your starter island, your crew's map will change to reflect the current Island Registry, including islands that have been approved but haven't been updated yet. It will not show the distance between one island to the next, and some islands may still move! However, it will show relative distance, and that's about all you can really ask for from a map that's enchanted. As more islands are discovered and more islands are put on the Registry, your map will update to show more.
As a note, crews may have more than one map, however those maps must be bought. Individuals may buy maps for themselves, and solo sailors will be given a map for free—it's one free map per ship!
* Please use your imagination, this mod will make the map after she finds her Photoshop confirmation code again.
For the following crew that did not go to Backwater Brig for a map, your default starter island is this:
The Million Merrily-Go: Himmelen
As for crews still in the making, this information will be available on an information on the mod account post haste. If you have any questions or concerns, drop a comment here or on our Mod Contact post!
ETA Also, Tartle Island is not available to be a starter island, as it is a mod-run island. No islands under ??? may be used as starter islands.
