Event

On the evening of the 22nd, a thick fog rolls in shrouding everything. Sailing becomes a hazard and even seeing your crewmate across the ship is nearly impossible. All sounds are muffled; even the steady beat of the water against the hull. Around midnight, a red light flashes through the fog. Almost like a warning—and perhaps it is.

The morning of the 23rd dawns, except it doesn’t. The sky is blazing with stars and a huge full orange moon that remains fixed, as if staring down at the unfortunates below. The fog has settled onto the sea, covering it completely so it’s almost like a second sea itself, roiling and writhing and then—you can hear the bells: deep, sonorous, ringing tones.

Ghost ships come sailing out of the fog, sails in tatters and laced in faint (familiar?) red light. The ghosts themselves are blank-eyed and staring, some fully formed, others little more than strips of flesh hanging off bones. They don’t seem to see you, or acknowledge anything said to them, but beware when one meets your eyes and reaches a finger for a touch. It’s unlucky to be touched by the dead and maybe even…fatal.




How It Will Work

This is a world-wide event and everyone will be able to see the fog/ghosts whether they are on an island or not as they will come inland. Natives will be sensibly holed away so don’t look for help on that end. The full moon will be fixed until midnight on the 31st when it will finally disappear below the horizon.

If your character is touched, they can turn into one of four beings. Each being comes with unique abilities and flaws but how you play them is up to you!


Vampire
Pros: increased speed, night vision, can smell blood/hear heartbeats, can turn into a bat.
Cons: bloodlust, aversion to garlic.

Werewolf
Pros: increased speed/strength/endurance, ability to understand animals
Cons: Always in wolf mode, hair trigger temper, fleas

Zombie
Pros: Unkillable even to drowning, increased strength, immune to death by ghost
Cons: Virtually uncontrollable desire to eat other people, slower.

Mummy
Pros: Can float, can sniff out treasure, can curse others with minor inconveniences up to major inconveniences.
Cons: Highly flammable, will die if completely unwrapped, can be mistaken for toilet paper

These are non-stackable. In other words, no vampire/zombie/mummy/werewolves combos. However, anyone is susceptible to insta-death ghosts except zombies who will at most just feel excruciating pain.

Insta-death ghosts are just that. One hit and your character is dead as a doornail until November 1st. Choose this option wisely.

Untouched characters who are already vampires/werewolves or otherwise undead will retain the traits they had before. In other words, a vampire character who couldn’t turn into a bat before won’t be able to do it now. Likewise, a werewolf who can control shifts won’t necessarily be in full wolf mode the entire full moon.

However, if you choose for your supernatural character to be touched by their own curse ghost (ex. a vampire touched by a vampire ghost), you can do one of two things. You can become:

A) Double cursed. Your vampire will be able to do what they do in canon, but also change into a bat. (additionally, however, will have an aversion to garlic if they hadn’t)
B) Human.

On the other hand, if your vampire is touched by a zombie ghost, they will become wholly a zombie.


Feel free to choose whatever ghost whenever you wish! However, the mods will also do a random roll for you if you like. Just reply to this post with any number 1-100, or just list the characters, at any time until midnight the 31st and a mod will roll it and PM you your ghost.

If you want. Any means your character wants to escape or get hit anyway is fine.
