**Event Post** Navy Month

March is Navy Month!

All through the month of March your crews will have an increased opportunity to engage with the Navy. While it’s not a requirement to interact, the Navy will be out in full force and it’s likely at the very least your crew will spot them in the distance. They may even come island bound, excluding Empieza, if that suits your needs better.

If you do choose to engage, the fights are up to you; in other words, no one will be NPCing them. But we have three options for fighting.

Easy-Medium Mode: These are the mooks of the Navy. Those guys out to prove themselves and rising up the ranks. What they lack in excessive firepower, they make up for in numbers. Feel free to struggle with these fights or completely obliterate the opposing force, but the harder you fight/the more you smash, the more attention you get. If you wish to engage in ground combat, mooks will be the only ones to follow you there.
Requirements: No requirements except that your character/crew's power level must match/surpass the power level of the ship(s) you are fighting. In other words, if Character A has a super power that allows them to sink fifteen ships at once, it’s fine for them to be defeating fifteen ships. If Character B’s only talent is whacking them with a garden hoe, you might want to reconsider the amount of ships you’re facing.
Rewards: Small to moderate. Some treasure. Some light cannon. No secret maps or anything like that. You can steal a navy ship but they have a certain shade of paint that will identify it as a Navy Ship immediately. It’s possible to get it repainted but it’s highly illegal and your crew is likely to be reported.

Medium-Hard Mode: The Eight Captains, known as the Eight Dogs of the sea. More details will come about them later, suffice to say that they have at least four ships in their fleet and more than one of them have supernatural abilities. They will not hesitate to pummel your characters to either kill or capture them -– and these battles must reflect the difficulty of the target. Signups will go up at the beginning of the month and your crew/alliance may sign up for all of them. Of course, while anyone can engage the Captains, only the winning crew/alliance will be able to defeat them. Additionally there is a cap for one Captain per crew/alliance. Switching alliances to get a peck at another Captain is prohibited. Beating a Captain will definitely put your crew/alliance on the Navy’s radar.
Requirements: A crew/alliance of 15 characters minimum. You can have less if you believe your characters have abilities equal to the task. However, keep in mind that the battles must reflect the difficulty of the Captain.
Rewards: Moderate to large. Treasure size/weapon cache varying depending on the difficulty of the Captain. This will be spelled out in more detail later. Additionally, each Captain has in their stateroom a map to one tiny shard piece. In other words, eight individual maps, eight individual shard pieces. But you’ll have to acquire them and that may not be the easiest.

Impossible-Ludicrous Mode: Located in the East and West, the Admirals command fleets of twelve ships a piece. Engaging with them means almost certain death/capture -- though it’s not impossible to run, it’s recommended you avoid any confrontation to begin with. Again, even upon winning, battles must reflect the difficulty of the task.
Requirements: An alliance of no less than thirty characters is required to beat these Admirals into a standstill/force them into a retreat. Destroying them completely is impossible. Additionally, near the midpoint of the battle a ‘spray’ will be released that coats everyone and makes everyone with supernatural abilities violently ill and unable to function
Rewards: Not much other than a huge spike in your notoriety, which may not be a good thing. Winning means the ability to loot all the ships in the fleet except the flag ship in terms of treasure. These will have the same treasure drop as the mook ships but weapons/maps will be destroyed upon defeat.

Q&A
If we are chosen to win, when do we fight?
Set up the log whenever you like between March 1st – April 6th. Backtagging is fine, but if your log is not set up by then and at least beginning to get underway, you forfeit the battle.
Can we handwave?
We prefer you actually engage in some way with the forces at hand and make an effort to try and tag it out. However, if things are stretching to mid-April and you really want to move on, you may, so long as your crew/characters reflect the difficulty of the fight you just had.
What happens if we are captured/decide to be beaten?
The Navy will destroy your ship if they can. But all captured characters will be taken to a naval prison based on the cardinal direction they were fighting in. In other words, if you’re captured in the south, you’ll be taken to the southern prison. Characters may rescue their taken comrades and even stage a prison break; though no vital information will be able to be obtained other than location. Additionally, characters who remain too long in prison may be in line to be executed.
What if our characters decide to try and join the naval forces?
The Navy has a policy of fire first, ask questions later. If your crew continues to come with a banner of peace, they will be captured and their ship destroyed unless they escape in time.
What if I don’t want to do any of it?
Then don’t. This is entirely optional. While we prefer your crew at the very least spots a naval ship in the distance, it’s not a rule we will enforce.
How do I make alliances?
Any way you want! We may even put up a suitable meme when winners are chosen.
When will the winners be chosen?
The sign-up sheet including a detailed Captain list will be put up on the 1st, sign-ups close at 11:59PM EST on the 4th, and winners will be announced on the 5th.
What if I want to sign up but don’t have the required amount of crew/alliance?
You can still sign up and even win but before you engage in the log, you must have the required amount of crew/alliance members. Mods will be keeping track of this, but please alert the mod plurk when you get the required amount.

Any other questions feel free to ask. Also there is a single day event happening in the middle of the month (which will be announced on the 1st) so be prepared for a little chaos!
